WIAA Urges Banning of Football Theme Nights

STEVENS POINT — Just weeks after receiving national attention for attempting to ban chanting things like “air ball” and “scoreboard” at basketball games, the WIAA is trying something new in another phase of state athletics.
The association issued a press release on Friday, January 22nd saying that, starting in the upcoming 2016 football season that all theme nights at high school football games will be banned. Fans attending the game in “any specific theme of clothing will be escorted out of the stands and off of the premise,” according to the WIAA.
A spokesman for the WIAA said, “Well, we just don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings or cause any unneeded tension. The themes may cause hurt feelings towards the opponents players and unrest to their fans.”
During a press conference on Friday several members explained how they thought the “inappropriate costumes” caused “quite a riot during last years games” and went on to say “we do not want to transform into an association that allows this kind of outrageous and childish behavior.”
Police protection is being offered to each of the members of the WIAA’s Board of Control.
