The ULTIMATE Cat Sitter List

IT’S HOLIDAY SEASON!!! Time for you to pack your bags, buy some sun cream and jet off to somewhere sunny.
The one downside to going on your well earned break? Having to saying goodbye to your feline friend.
Ideally, you’d take your cat with you on every out-of-town adventure, but this isn’t always an option. There will be times when you’ll have to leave them either in the hands of a reputable cattery or with a trustworthy sitter. Which is something kitty much prefers as, unlike us people, they really prefer their home comforts.
A recent poll showed that 85% of our FELIWAY fans would choose to trust a sitter, family or friend to take care of their cat rather than a cattery when they go away.
With this in mind, we’ve created an awesome list of everything your sitter needs to know to keep your cat safe and happy in your absence, so there’s one less thing for you to worry about before you go away!

Meet & Greet
Imagine your family goes away for a week and in their place they leave a stranger! Scary, right? This is how your cat will feel if they haven’t met their kitty carer before you leave. Be sure to introduce your sitter to your cat ahead of your departure. Better still, get them to leave behind a piece of clothing so your cat can get used to their smell.

The Kitty Cat Files
Remember that checklist you put together to remind you to pack your swimming outfit and your best sunglasses? Don’t forget the even more important list of what your cat needs while you’re away. This will act as an encyclopedia of all things YOUR CAT. So, before you leave make sure your sitter knows….

Travel Dates
So your sitter can tell your cat when you’re returning for cuddles. And when they need to start and stop looking after your cat, of course.
Contact Details
So your sitter (or cat) can call you while you’re away. This should also include things like your vet and local friends or family, in case your cat needs someone familiar in your absence.
Health Info
If you cat needs some medication be sure to let your sitter know what this is for, where it is and when they should give it to your cat.
Routine
Cats love a good routine. From when they eat, sleep and play, if your sitter knows all this then you cat will feel as if little has changed (other than your love now being by a pool somewhere) and will ensure they feel content and secure.
Playtime
Let’s be honest, this is the highlight of your sitter’s job, PLAYING with your feline friend. Playing with your cat is essential to keep kitty stimulated and entertained. If you show your sitter your cat’s favourite toys your cat will thank you (or your sitter).

Watered & Fed
No one, NO ONE, knows your cat better than you. So be sure to pass key information about your cat’s diet, when and what they eat on to you sitter. Leave a note of all this and your cat’s favourite food brand in case you run out while you’re away. Remember the little things that make your cat unique, for example what kind of bowl they like to drink their water out of and to keep it fresh.
Clean Kitty
You know how much your cat loves to clean itself? They feel this strongly about their litter tray too. Be sure your sitter knows to empty the litter tray daily, be sure to leave them some trash bags for them to dispose of the dirty litter and leave enough litter for the whole of your holiday so as both sitter and kitty don’t run out.
Keep Calm
We love our cats because of their how unique they are. Your cat probably has all sorts of habits that to you are normal. Like occasionally hiding in places that seem unusual or vomiting from hairballs. Let your sitter know these things so as they don’t worry when your cat continues being YOUR CAT!
Border Control
There are probably parts of your home your cat is not on the list so they’re not coming in. This might be the garden, or the spare room (where kitty likes to make the most of the clean, soft bed). Your cat is curious and, like children, in your absence like to test limits. Keeping these border controls in place through your sitter is often to your cat’s benefit.
Finally…
Make sure your sitter has all this information and your cat will have the best possible holiday as well. And remember, the best thing about any holiday is coming home to a healthy, happy kitty who will want nothing more than lots of cuddles from you and your new sun tan.
