I learnt this from a teacher: useful concepts are way more useful than facts. REALLY understanding something requires going beyond facts and into grasping the inner workings of something, and that requires attention and time. So, yeah, reflection on little material is more valuable and produces solid perspectives more efficiently than superficially devouring a lot of information.
