Harry Potter and the Cursed child hits the stores and has rekindled every wizardly desire in you. How you wish you could ride on a flying broomstick or make your enemies eat slugs (still sounds gross, right?).

While we dwell in the joy of the eight edition, we still miss the novelty about around ‘Pottermore’. And how fast do we grow up!

Just when you lose all hopes of ever becoming a wizard and when reality hits you hard that you are a muggle, all you have to do is wave your wand and cast a ‘Patronus’ to drive away the sadness. You may be a muggle but becoming a wizard is not that difficult. Honestly.

We give you 7 incredibly effortless steps to turn into a wizard or a witch. (Make sure you keep your windows open, the Hogwarts letter might come in anytime)

  1. Your wizardly hat: Oh c’mon! How can you possibly be a wizard without your hat! That’s where all the magic rests. Get a wizardly hat for yourself and feel the magic encompass you. While a black hat would just serve the purpose quite well, you could just funk things up by adding stars and other magical elements to it. Makes it all then more fun.

2. Your wand: One just cannot be a wizard without a wand. Magic needs a medium and that is when a wand comes into play. Also, remember the horrors Ron had to go through with a broken wand? You definitely wouldn’t want a spell to backfire. Getting a wand doesn’t essentially require Ollivander. Well technically yeah, but since that might get a bit difficult in the brace of reality, you can create your own wand. Go to a carpenter around you and explain him how you’d want your wand. You might obviously have to pay him but nothing came free even in the magical world. If you are too broke for that, then you can assume a chopstick as you wand with dragon-hair. Cheap thrills, much?

3. Your Robe: To complete your look as a wizard you need a robe. It just adds to the flare. Imagine walking around with a coat that wavers around you and beautifully mergers with your gait adding to all that wizardly swag! Getting a wizardly robe is rather easy. Wizards were just humans at the end of the day and wore robes. Get a robe for yourself and what you have is a complete wizard look. If robes are out of your magical realm, then you can just pretend your curtain to be one. Make sure you don’t break something or soil that curtain or else nothing can save you from the “Crucio” your mom may cast.

4. Get a pet: Harry had an owl, Hermione had a cat and Ron had the evil Peter Pettigrew disguised as a house rat. So much so, that Dumbledore had a phoenix and Voldemort had a python. You should have one, too. Get a pet for yourself. It could be a pup, or a kitten, a parrot, anything. To enter the magical world, you need the innocence and spotless conscience of a pet around you. Think about it.

5. Your ride: You get into the wizarding world and then how would you travel? Bikes and cars don’t work that well there. You need your broom to go about places, take part in quidditch and much more. While getting a Nimbus is unlikely, you can manage with the broom you have at home or the one you get at the local supermarket. It works the same. Just a little slower perhaps. But that’s alright.

6. Your room: A room is your territory. It is your realm where magic comes to life. Funk up your room and make it the hall of dark mysticism. Draw symbols on the walls and door. Stars, moon, silhouettes, etc. anything as fancy as a castle to even an owl, anything that reminds you of the mystical world works fine. Transform your room and get transported to the mystical world. But don’t forget to say “Diagon Alley”. (NOT diagonally!)

Isn’t this heavenly?

7. Your secret book: Oh, yes. This is the most essential part of wizardry — your secret book of charms and spells. With these, you can do anything. You are the undisputed master of magic and invincible all the same. But mind you, if someone else gets their hands on this book, it may just be your doom. You have to keep it safe. Very safe!

Now that you know the simple ways of turning into a wizard, why don’t you try it already.

They also sort you into houses! How cool is that. I am in house Slytherin, btw. If you get sorted into Slytherin, you’ll find me in the dungeons. See ya!

For in the end, magic is real. Only if you believe in it.
