3rd Anniversary of Filecoin Mainnet Launch: Breakthroughs and Rewards
On October 15, 2020, the Filecoin Mainnet launched, marking the beginning of a new era for decentralized storage. With its innovative project vision and unique consensus mechanism, Filecoin emerged as a shining star within the industry.
As time passed, Protocol Labs continued to refine the underlying technology and actively expand the overall storage capacity of the network.
Now, Filecoin is approaching its 3rd anniversary. In the last year, the Filecoin community has achieved Steps 1 and 2 of the Filecoin Master Plan, which involves building the world’s largest decentralized storage network and onboarding and safeguarding humanity’s data.
In terms of storage capacity, over 3,300 storage providers globally contributed more than 24EiB network storage power.
In the expansion of application scenarios, Filecoin collaborated with numerous teams worldwide, including biological science institutions, space research organizations, and top universities, to drive high-quality and diverse data storage.
However, in Filecoin’s grand vision, storage is just the 1st step. The next step is to enable programmable storage, retrieval, and large-scale computation over data.
In March of this year, the Filecoin Virtual Machine (FVM) launched on the Filecoin Mainnet, breaking through previous limitations to support user programmability. Over 100 teams have started building new projects based on FVM. Only 6 months after FVM launched, the amount of FIL pledged via apps built on the FVM has passed 10M.
Both the retrieval market and computation over data are steadily progressing, with the representative projects Saturn and Bacalhau achieving remarkable results.
In terms of community governance, an increasing number of ecosystem participants have become actively engaged in community discussions, driving community governance forward.
Looking back on this year, with the efforts of the Filecoin community and numerous ecosystem partners, the Filecoin network has made significant progress in various aspects, including network scale, storage capacity, core technologies, and the number of developers. What an extraordinary year, with both breakthroughs and rewards!
