On November 1, FileDrive Labs hosted the 19th FileDrive Meetup, officially unveiling the HASS Sector Storage to the public.

The core members of the HASS team participated in the meetup, offering in-depth insights into the product highlights, technical architecture, and market plans of HASS. Here is the recap.

HASS Sector Storage Overview

High-availability Sector Storage (HASS) is a native, large-scale, shared-access distributed sector storage solution designed specifically for the Filecoin network. It features high performance, high availability, and scalability.

As a distributed file system, HASS utilizes redundant deployment mechanisms across multiple nodes with intelligent data backup strategies and provides fast data storage and retrieval performance to ensure the continuous high availability of Filecoin sector data.

HASS ensures uninterrupted read and write operations for Filecoin sector data, even in controllable node failure situations. It also initiates data recovery mechanisms automatically.

In addition, HASS supports the FUSE protocol applied in multiple scenarios, including raw data storage, data pre-processing and sector sealing, and sector storage. It also offers vital functionalities such as data validation, protection, and recovery.

Flexible Billing: Monthly Billing, Quarterly Payment

HASS Sector Storage operates under a “Monthly Billing, Quarterly Payment” model.

Compared to the annual billing and payment methods, this model supports better budget planning and cash flow management for users.

For users enrolling in the HASS Pilot Program, along with the 3-month free trial period, the subsequent quarterly payment model significantly enhances the flexibility of cash flow, resulting in increased overall cost efficiency.

Moreover, HASS employs a tiered pricing structure for billing, meaning that the larger the storage volume, the greater the discount users will receive.

During usage, users can expand storage capacity at any time. Once the cumulative storage capacity reaches the gradient discount calculation point, they will equally benefit from the gradient discount fees.

Technical Architecture: Features and Advantages

The technical architecture of HASS Sector Storage includes the following features and advantages designed to meet users’ storage needs.

Features:

· Metadata and data blocks are separated to provide a precondition for data redundancy mechanisms while reducing the access latency of metadata, thus improving file retrieval efficiency.

· Erasure codes are employed as the mechanism for data redundancy to achieve higher usage rates than multiple replicas.

· Data disks are accessed directly instead of using a disk array, with the application of in-house developed data distribution and balancing algorithms.

Advantages:

· High Stability and Security

HASS manages storage pools and employs data erasure redundancy mechanisms, treating the storage cluster as a whole to counteract the risks of server failure. Therefore, faults within the redundancy scope will not affect the overall cluster’s operation.

When using a disk array as a redundancy solution, failure in a single device will significantly impact other devices’ performance, leading to service disruption. During data recovery, the R&W performance will also decrease significantly.

Contrarily, when addressing the failure of a single device, the HASS cluster can read data from other devices and reconstruct it using erasure code algorithms, ensuring the overall performance of the storage cluster and effectively enhancing data stability and security.

· High Throughput

HASS uses proprietary data distribution and balancing algorithms, which can effectively disperse data flow among storage devices in the cluster.

As the total number of storage devices increases, the throughput of the HASS cluster increases, which can not only meet the needs of storage providers in the Filecoin network to encapsulate large amounts of data in a short time but also support the migration of large amounts of data from other storage media.

Since HASS sector storage entered the testing phase, it has received significant attention from numerous ecosystem partners. So far, HASS has provided data security support for over 500 PiB effective storage power on Filecoin.

The newly launched HASS Pilot Program offers a 3-month free trial to provide professional and efficient sector storage solutions for more ecosystem storage providers.
