Fishtown block trash free

In a historic, one-time event, an entire block of the neighborhood didn’t have a single piece of trash on the road or sidewalk.

“Today is a tremendous victory for the community, and for Philadelphia,” said mayor Jim Kenney at a press conference. “Never before has a block of Fishtown been as spotless as this. Unfortunately, it is likely that we will never have a momentous occasion such as this in the future.”

The block was trash free on Monday, July 10, 2017 from about 10am to 10:04am.

“Honestly, I don’t like that the block is trash free. Lack of an adequate sanitation budget is partially what gives character to the neighborhood,” said long-time Fishtowner Jim Mezze. “I will take it upon myself to change this street back to it’s former glory, by using a Trader Joe’s bag as a recycling bin. With any luck, a slight breeze will spill my refuse onto my neighbors patios.”
