Why You Should Eliminate Sugar From Your Diet
Everyone knows that too much sugar is bad for you. However nobody ever talks about how much sugar is safe, and how much is too much.
The University of North Carolina, estimates that around 20% of Americans consume 700 calories daily from added sugar, and the rest anywhere from 300 to 500 calories. Added sugar comes from the obvious cookies, candy, sodas, etc. However most people don’t know that products like yogurts, pasta sauce, and “healthy” granola bars are also culprits of being sugar bombs.
On every packaged item you consume you will see the nutritional content on the back. Fruit flavored Chobani yogurt for example contains 15 grams of sugar. See here http://www.chobani.com/products/fruit-on-the-bottom#apricotThe American Heart Association suggests that we stick to 25 grams of sugar per day. So if you consume, a “healthy” yogurt and any soda, candy bar, or serving of cookies per day, you are already over the limit.
It’s important to remember and watch sugar intake. Excess sugar consumption is not only about weight gain, mood swings and anxiety. All of these are fixable and can be solved. However, heart disease, and diabetes can drastically decrease your life span. Getting into a habit of casually keeping a mental note of how much sugar you’re putting in your body can go a long way.
