5 hacks to reducing high heel pain
There are some absolute reasons for wearing heels — anything else would be fashion paux pas. However for most women, high heels equal high discomfort, especially after extended wear. Don’t ditch your heels just yet — keep your heels high and standards higher with these 5 (simple) hacks.
1. Walking upright
Believe it or not, your walking posture matters. The best way to walk in heels to keep your head and spine straight and imagine being pulled uphill. Your paces should be more like a light bounce than like you are saving yourself from a fall.
2. Walking heel to toe
The most common mistake women make is putting the whole foot down at once, as if you’re wearing flats. Since your ankle is not at a right angle now, that will feel unnatural. The best way is to walk heel to toe — put your heel down first and then followed by your toe. This will feel more natural ..and comfortable.
3. Stretch your heels
One of common reason for pain is tight heels. Stretching them out in a controlled manner is a smart way to deal with this issue. To do this, fill a zip bag with water so that is snugly fits into the heel area you would like stretched. Then place the heels in the freezer. As the water freezes, it expands and it expands the heels and holds it in place for the new shape to take effect.
4. Using deodorant to smooth the inside
I know this sounds weird, but it actually works! Rubbing deodorant inside the heels adds smoothness to prevent blisters and chafing. This is especially true is the heels do not have cushioning on the bottom or the sides.
5. Get better traction
Get some sandpaper, and gently scrub the bottom of the heels. This makes the bottom surface coarser, and give a better traction on the ground. It prevents the heels from sliding on smooth surfaces and also prevents some of the clickty-clack noise.
If you need to have a backup, throw a pair of the foldable flats in your purse. This way, even if the hacks fail, you can still walk out in style and comfort!
