5 Tips to Help You Succeed in Your Fitness in The New Year
Happy New Year! It’s 2016 and this is the year that you are going to get more fit than you have ever been in your life! Here are 5 tips to help you succeed in the new year:
Tip #1: Eat Breakfast
This seems like a very easy thing to do, but many people claim that they don’t have time to eat breakfast or they aren’t hungry when they wake up. However, you have been fasting for 6–8 hours during your slumber and need to get your metabolism jump-started by eating a nutritious breakfast upon waking. I personally make this shake to start every morning off right:
- 1 cup of Whole Milk, Almond Milk, or Water (Depending on my goal)
- 1/2 cup of Oatmeal
- 1 Banana
- 1 Tablespoon of Chia Seeds
- 1 Tablespoon of a Nut Butter
- 1 Scoop of Vanilla Whey Protein
- 3–4 Ice Cubes
This is very easy to make and it tastes delicious!
Tip #2: Meal Prep and Cook from Home
Not only will this save you time and money, it will also keep you on track with your nutrition! I like to choose 3–4 proteins, carbs, and vegetables to eat for the week. So, for example, I may choose beef, chicken, tuna, and salmon for my proteins, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, rice, and whole wheat noodles as my carbs, and broccoli, green beans, a vegetable medley, and a spinach salad as my vegetables. I will cook enough for 3–7 days and freeze/refrigerate them to use for the week! This also works great to plan out smoothies as well. You can simply prep smoothies by freezing assorted recipes of fruits and greens in plastic bags or reusable containers to make healthy smoothies in minimal amounts of time!
Tip #3: Hit Record on the DVR
Don’t let hours and hours of television distract you from your goals. Choose a few shows that you really enjoy and cut the rest. Use your time to do more meaningful tasks that are related to any goals or dreams! If you want to be better than you were last year, you have to change things that kept you off track. This is one area that many people need to downsize when allocating time.
Tip #4: Don’t Just Do One: Diet & Exercise Together
Sure, you will see some progress if you exercise or diet alone, but if you truly want to maximize your results, then you have to make sure that you holding yourself accountable in both aspects. Doing both of these simultaneously will also promote a healthier lifestyle as a whole and begin to impact your life in a broader spectrum than you may realize.
Tip #5: Write Things Down
Your goals, your sets, reps, weight, and food intake should be written down in order to track progress and hold yourself accountable. This is such an important step that gets omitted all too often. Keeping track of your progress by recording your body weight, the amount of weight you lifted for a specific exercise, and your goals in the next year will make trends easier to identify. Not to mention, tracking these details makes it easy and fun to look back at the rewarding journey that you decided to take.
