We believe that drivers should have the power to make informed decisions when it comes to choosing car workshops. For a car maintenance job which potentially costs a lot of money, it’s hard to tell if you’re getting a fair price for a repair, or getting ripped off.
Fixir empowers drivers by connecting them to trusted car workshops for their car maintenance and repair. Through an intuitive website and upcoming mobile application, drivers can easily submit their car problem via a description or photo and receive quotations from trusted workshops nearby, enabling them to make an informed decision.
Our mission is to create an open and transparent automobile market which can be accessed straight from their device.
Meaning, drivers no longer have to worry about being charged exorbitant prices for a repair. Fixir’s goal is to enable them to easily get quotes from several workshops so as to choose a suitable car repair shop.
This way, it helps customers get reliable repairs, and brings business to car repair shops who are providing good work at reasonable prices.

When is the Best Time to Find Business Partners? During Your National Service!
How does serving National Service (NS) lead to the startup of a local company? Glenn Ong (LTA NS), Merlvin Tan (LTA NS) and Chew Zi Jie (LTA NS) share how their time in army helped them formulate a business partnership.
One is likely to associate the Army with traditionally military items — Outfield navigation exercises, rugged combat tanks, and the recognizable green camouflage attire.
This time, however, things are different.
From OCS Buddies to Business Partners
Three Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) officers who met through Officer Cadet School (OCS), in a simple twist of fate, have banded together to create their very own startup. From being fellow army cadet officers to serving the Artillery together to becoming university mates, Glenn Ong, Merlvin Tan, and Chew Zi Jie made a decision to tread the route less travelled and venture into the business world. Their startup Fixir Pte Ltd (www.fixir.co) aims to empower drivers by connecting them to reliable car workshops for repair and maintenance.
Why do Drivers Need Fixir?
The concept was born from a frustration they each ran into — whether one could tell if they were being overcharged for a car repair. With Fixir, drivers are able to get quotes from established workshops on-the-go, enabling them to make a more informed decision. It is dedicated to empowering users, placing focus on value pricing, quality service, and top-notch efficiency.
“It was my idea initially,” Merlvin explained. “As my father worked in the car parts supplier industry, friends often asked me for car-related advice. I was then inspired to create an app to help people out of my social circle, but I couldn’t do it alone. So I enlisted the help of my army friends.”
“It wasn’t a hard choice to make, really. We bonded while serving in the army, and I knew we each had useful skillsets to contribute,” recalled Glenn. “So when I first heard of the idea from Merlvin, I was happy to come on board.”
Managing the Early Stages of a Startup
Initially, it was a difficult path since the team had to convince car workshops to work with them. The team spoke to workshop owners over the next few months to understand their needs and how Fixir could be developed to help improve their operations and sales. Just in December 2015, the team on-boarded their first paying workshop and since then had many workshops all around Singapore sign up.
The young entrepreneurs never looked back as plenty of support from friends and family filled in. Fixir has now grown to a team of eight in a relatively short span of 6 months.
Launching Fixir’s Mobile Application for Drivers
The team introduced the Fixir beta mobile application in the Apple iOS store and has since tested the application with their friends and family who drive to improve the experience of the mobile application. The team is also in the midst of developing the Android version in order to cater to more drivers.
On what they learnt from their NS days, Zi Jie shared, “It’s all about teamwork. The friendships that I forged were without a doubt my greatest takeaway. By fostering tight bonds between platoon members, you can keep the team spirit high and motivate each other along the way. This applies to the business world as well!”

History
Fixir evolved from the frustration which the team ran into — The inability to tell if the price paid for a car repair was too high.
The Fixir founders (consisting of Glenn, Merlvin, Jadien, Ryan, and Phuc) found they wasted hours asking around and searching up on the Internet to find reliable workshops.
With that, the idea for Fixir was born, and the team began work on the first version of the app.
Fixir Today
The company has grown quickly in just 6 months, and is looking to expand into regional markets. This is just the beginning, and plans to publish the Android app and workshop platform are already underway. We’d love to have you along for the journey.
