The Muse Chronicles: 2

“I will give you a gift,” the Muse said. “I will allow you to break the fourth wall to yourself.”

She reached into the first drawer of the desk and pulled out a pair of glasses.

“When you put these on, you will perceive your life as the audience to yourself,” she said. “These glasses will allow you to observe your own life in 360 degrees, outside of yourself. They will both widen and narrow your perspective. They will slow time and elongate thought. With them, you will be able to see the interconnectivity of being.”

I tried to process each word she said but became overwhelmed by the concepts.

“The glasses sound like they can make me see as God does,” I finally said.

“If God can see the permeable nature of our existence, then yes, they will,” she said.”

“So, what’s the catch?” I asked, expecting some sort of Cinderella clause. “Will they expire? Or disappear? Or lose their power?”

She shook her head.

“No,” she said. “There is no fine print. What these glasses can give to you, no one can take. Not even me.”
