Creatures

A 21st Century Reflection

We are all creatures.
Somewhere along the way,
Our fathers and mothers,
Became entranced by humanity.

The notion of supremacy,
Infallibility.
An ugly notion,
That dons a glorious guise.

Oh Humanity!
Sentience!
Conscience!
Understanding!

Where were these blessings
During the dark days.
The cold nights.
The unspeakable moments,
That aren’t recorded in Father Time’s police report.

We are all simply creatures.
Majestic beings,
Beautiful, fragile and complex.
But not always.

We are never always.
Nothing is certain.
The Future drapes herself in chance.
And sleeps with a death mask on her face.

Our simplicity, breeds our divinity.
Leaving us wandering,
Without definition.
Creating our own purpose
Moment by moment.
