I hope the Iraqi Kurds’ efforts do some day come to fruition. People get complacent about the omnipotence of the factitious State, and secession is the sole exemplar of liberty — the only expression of practical anarchism available to us — in a world dominated by “universal and homogeneous” nation-states. Granted, a new Kurdistan will ultimately evolve into “just one more” State. Nonetheless, in the meantime, the mere fact of secession is a tangible reminder that the State is not beyond criticism and is only given power by popular belief.
