Welcome to Episode 39! Natalie and Imriel join us and we’re reviewing iBoy a 2017 Netflix British science-fiction teen thriller film on, starring Bill Milner (not Will Poulter) and Maisie Williams.

iBoy - Flixwatcher Podcast - Image 003

The plot is pretty ridiculous and at times confusing, somehow iBoy (Tom) as a result of mental fragments being embedded in his brain can now control electronic things, mostly phones and sometimes cars. He uses this ‘superpower’ to take revenge against local gangsters and their mob boss. Still interested? There is definitely an audience for this film — that doesn’t involve anyone reviewing it on this podcast though.

It’s not terrible, the acting in is reasonable and there are some unusual elements (Miranda Richardson as the grandma/mother role who wrote erotic fiction, badly) but that doesn’t absolve it from being overly dark and a bit of a slog. As superheroes go, setting fire to phones, putting money in bank accounts — The Avengers have nothing to worry about.

Unsurprisingly iBoy scores low, really low across all the scores — Imriel was not impressed and scored it with some juicy 0’s — overall scoring 2.4 low but not as low as Imriel would have liked. We recommend you watch The Good Place instead of this.
