The book, available at GuyHarvey.com, describes personal anecdotes of Dr. Harvey’s early years growing up in Jamaica through the lens of his mother Josephine’s detailed journals and poignant photos she took from the 1950s to the 1970s, all in black and white.
Drawing upon these accounts of the Harvey family’s life experiences, Dr. Harvey penned 65 ink drawings to expand on some of the stories and illustrate the many fishing expeditions and the action of catching blue marlin that they experienced.
“Everyone asks me about the name of the book, since it sounds more like it’s about a restaurant,” said Dr. Harvey. “It is actually named after my mom’s enthusiasm for making the family chicken sandwiches we took with us on all of our fishing trips. She would say she made 10,000 chicken sandwiches over the decades for us to take fishing. I cherish those memories very much, and I’m so thrilled to share these stories and illustrations. I hope readers enjoy this as much as I enjoyed reminiscing.”
