Eight TV, the fast growing Teen Shopping Channel, Announces Deal with BH Cosmetics, and Secures Investment from Lightspeed Venture Partners

SAN FRANCISCO — August 24, 2017 — eight TV, an addictive new video shopping and reviews app for iPhone and web, which is drawing thousands of new teen users each day, today announced an exclusive partnership with BH Cosmetics, one of the world’s most popular makeup brands, to create a series of exclusive shoppable 1 minute video shows starring top teen YouTube stars Fiona Frills and Emily Lee. The shows, exclusive on the platform, dubbed the QVC for teens, will feature the makeup brand’s fall product lines for eight TV’s fast-growing teen audience.
The BH Cosmetics announcement comes on the heels of eight TV’s appearance in the recent finale episode of Planet of the Apps. Available exclusively on Apple Music, the episode put the spotlight on eight TV founders Chris Knight and Leon Crutchley as they developed the product alongside their advisor on the show, Gary Vaynerchuk of VaynerMedia, and also interacted with the other advisors: Jessica Alba (The Honest Company), Gwyneth Paltrow (Goop) and will.i.am (i.am+).

Through their participation on Planet of the Apps, eight TV secured venture capital investment from the hottest VC in Silicon Valley, Snapchat’s earliest investor, Lightspeed Venture Partners.

“Our first trial with BH Cosmetics broke our systems,” Crutchley said. “Demand was insane and we sold out our entire inventory in under 55 seconds.”
“93% of teen girls go to YouTube to watch product reviews,” said Knight, “but making reviews on YouTube takes time. Eight TV makes it easy and fun, not just to create fun reviews but to shop them, and we’re seeing teens opening the app over 10 times a day,” said Knight. “BH Cosmetics are moving faster than any makeup brand to innovate in this market right now, which is what makes the partnership so exciting.”
On eight TV, users can record 1 minute shopping shows about any product they love (or hate) and then hover the phone near the product to magically bring the product from the real world into the video and make it instantly shoppable with unlimited inventory. The eight TV team, led by Knight and Crutchley, app developers from Australia and the UK, alongside Community Head Stephanie Queralto, has teamed with Amazon to recognize over 100 million barcodes instantly, and the app even pays the video maker up to 12% for each purchase.
Many of the most popular teen YouTubers already have shows on eight TV, including Fiona Frills, Emily Lee, Yung Poppy, and Mel Joy, and eight TV recently hit the top 50 chart in the shopping category of the App Store.
