4:55 — Get Home Now 7/1

As soon as the cards appeared on Oddschecker on Thursday evening, Get Home Now attracted punters en masse as they looked to sweep up the early price. The 9yo is a three-time winner from 2m 3f to 2m 4f on good to firm and good ground and should get similar conditions again today. Sean Bowen takes the ride for his father Peter and looks overpriced for a race lacking depth. …

1:50: Neil Mullholland and Lawney Hill are two trainers who have a good record at the April fixtures here. They saddle the most likely pair to win this with FULL (NAP) and Shimba Hills. The latter has been in excellent form at neighbouring Plumpton this winter but his latest effort suggests the handicapper may have caught up with him. In contrast the French import FULL is much harder to evaluate. There was support for him at Warwick last time on his first run for nine months…

2.10: RED RISING sets a respectable standard in the opener; his trainer has a fine record at the track over the past year, with a 25% strike-rate. His effort on debut for this yard last time out couldn’t have been more impressive and he looks like one with a bright future ahead of him. Dingo Dollar was out of his depth last time but scored impressively at Bangor prior to that and should give the Skelton horse plenty to think about.

This looks like it could develop into a matchup between BENATAR and Glaring. The former has already achieved a BHA rating of 130 and he may improve for the quicker ground. His course and distance success here back in January proves he already handles the unique demands of this course and he was an easy enough winner that day. He followed that up by running well in the Sidney Banks Novices Hurdle at Huntingdon against a stronger field. He was last seen tackling the useful Le Breuil at Newbury and while he was well-beaten by that rival, he was far…

Spring Afternoon Racing kicks off at Fontwell Park on Friday 31 March with seven races across the afternoon. With 114 horses entered, the meeting will play a major role in deciding who will come out on top of the top Trainer and Jockey Leaderboards for the 2016/17 season with father and son Gary and Jamie Moore currently leading both categories.

Fontwell Park Racecourse has been nominated for three awards at the prestigious Racecourse Association’s annual Showcase & Awards event in November.

Nominated in the Best Campaign, Owners Experience and Digital / Social Media Excellence categories, Fontwell Park Racecourse impressed the independent judging panel sufficiently to become one of five finalists in each category and will be hoping to be crowned winners at the award ceremony at Doncaster Racecourse on 17 November.

The Best Campaign Award celebrates excellence in the sphere of marketing, increasing the appeal of racing to new audiences and improving the frequency of visits amongst customers. The Digital/Social…

Paul celebrated his 35th year work anniversary in May and agreed to sit down after we finished racing to talk about some of his experiences throughout his time as head groundsman. Paul (and his dodgy shorts) has become well known at Fontwell and his expertise and kindness is appreciated by not only all the staff, but every jockey, trainer, owner and punter who comes through our gates.

Interview by Mandy Austen Fontwell Park Sponsorship Manager

Leighton massive congratulations to you on your magnificent win on Saturday in the Grand National. The last time a jockey rode back to back wins at the National was Brian Fletcher with Red Rum in 1973 and 1974, and only the third since World War II, along with Brian Marshall. Did you have a choice of which horse you wanted to ride, if so what made you choose Many Clouds?

Thanks Mandy, yes I did, I was offered Pineau De Re again, but as I won the Hennessey Gold Cup on Many Clouds and I…
