Fernando Forestieri: One Love (but potentially open to offers)

Fernando Forestieri has pulled what will from this point forward be described as a ‘Karanka’.

But while the Middlesbrough manager’s self-imposed hiatus from the dressing room last season didn’t cause much damage to his club’s promotion prospects (they’re currently mid table in the Premier League after a draw with Stoke City) Sheffield Wednesday are less inclined to look favourably on their errant striker’s brief disappearance.

Reports emerged that on Saturday that Forestieri hadn’t travelled for the weekend fixture vs. Norwich City, with his absence attributed to interest from Derby County and Newcastle United. In a Sky interview, Wednesday manager Carlos Carvahal told reporters that Forestieri had to be persuaded to play the opening game of the season vs. Aston Villa but after scoring the winner and training as usual, was adamant in his refusal to start vs. Norwich.

Forestieri has issued the now traditional apology to fans via social media, stating:

“I just want to clarify I have never wanted to leave and have always, and still do, want to play for Sheffield Wednesday.

I apologise for my behaviour and know there is no excuse. I hope we can move on so I can focus only on my passion.”

For the benefit of Sheffield Wednesday fans, we’re going to assume he means football and not the heftily inflated salary package (plus add ons) offered by a relegated club with a manager who was until recently in charge of Cristiano Ronaldo’s team selection.

They’re a forgiving lot up at Hillsborough though. None of this will be mentioned again if he stays, betters last year’s tally of fifteen for the season and leads a successful campaign resulting in automatic promotion to the Premier League.

With two weeks left to go in the transfer window what could possibly go wrong?
