For Our Future Celebrates Labor Day With Unprecedented Doors Milestone

FOF Organizers have knocked on doors of 400,000 voters since May

DETROIT — Today For Our Future Michigan announced that since May, FOF field organizers have knocked on the doors of 400,000 voters all over Michigan.

The ongoing campaign started with a listening canvass that simply asked voters what issues they cared about most, while after the August primary organizers began pitching voters on supporting Democratic candidates up and down the ballot.

“We are incredibly proud of the unprecedented work our organizers have already done all over Michigan,” said Joshua Pugh, For Our Future’s Michigan Communications Director. “Just a few hundred thousand more doors and we’ll be celebrating victory for a full slate of progressive candidates this November.”

So far this year, For Our Future Michigan has knocked on doors in the following counties: Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Genesee, Washtenaw, Jackson, Ingham, Eaton, Calhoun, Kalamazoo, Kent, and Muskegon.

Organizers have attempted the doors of the following number of voters by region:

Wayne — 189,100

Oakland/Macomb — 71,124

Flint/Saginaw — 4,434

I-94 Corridor — 47,127

Capitol — 42,493

West Michigan — 46,768

Total: 401,046

Michigan is one of seven battleground states being targeted by For Our Future in an effort to speak with voters and identify issues in their communities.

BACKGROUND: For Our Future and For Our Future Action Fund (FOF & FOFAF) were founded in 2016 and organize both electoral and issue campaigns through a PAC and 501(c)(4) organization, respectively partnering with community-based organizations to build permanent progressive power on the ground. In 2016, FOF ran a $60 million ground operation in several battleground states that substantially boosted turnout for progressive candidates up and down the ballot. As a national organizing platform, FOFAF supports education and mobilization campaigns on issues relevant to citizens in seven states (FL, MI, OH, PA, NV, VA, WI), including the need for shared economic prosperity, stronger public schools, addressing climate change, and supporting racial justice. In a few short months, FOF & FOFAF formed 170 partnerships with local grassroots organizations dedicated to engaging Millennial, African American, Latino, APIA, Native American, Muslim, LGBT, Faith, and Veteran communities. In 2016, these partners knocked on over 4,000,000 doors and talked to nearly 1 million people. FOF & FOFAF have continued coordinated field and digital organizing steadily ever since — they now have over 600 local partner organizations — and are mounting an aggressive nationwide effort to promote progressive policies and win key races in 2018.
