Why I’m starting to hate Copy

Because seriously, Dropbox is better.

I was still awake in the early dawn, So I decided to clean up my files on my 256 GB SSD hard drive. So I was busy organising and deleting unused files on a file-sharing cloud platform we were using, called Copy. It works similarly with Dropbox, but a little more sucky on the UX, in my humble opinion.

That Big Folder

We have a shared folder called “Projects” where everyone sees and have access to all of our designer’s PSD’s, mock-ups and production-ready comps. There aren’t really a lot of projects I want to sync on my machine since some folders contain over 4GB or more of client resources. It eats up my 256GB SSD Drive like a snack. Currently, we have 46.2GB worth of PSD’s in the cloud. (And it’s only gonna get bigger) So, in my futile attempt to free unnecessary files sync to me, I logged in Copy’s main site.

Copy’s Web Interface

Navigating through the project folder that I didn’t want to sync, I came across a “Stop Syncing” button. And I was like, “Oh, here it is!” Since I was in this curently opened folder, It would make sense that clicking on the Stop Syncing button would do the trick. But to my surprise, It totally disconnected my account. And removed every single file on my account. Bummer.

46.2GB of syncing back every lost file, geez.

I know it isn’t that much for you. But I’m from a place where good internet is hard to find (or doesn’t exist at all). A 1.5mbps connection is already good for me.

Anyway, I just copy someone else’s Project folder on Copy into my laptop. The transfer took around 40 mins on a USB 3.0 external drive. But hey, it’s better than waiting for 46.2GB download and all because of a not-so-good user interface design. Hope they sort it out soon.
