config files in nodejs

interesting. config files are used to define variables for different kinds of environments.

one common usage is to hide passwords and sensitive information in them. i learned that trick from the fb messenger api example.

i came across a bug today — my heroku app push wasn’t working.

This was really interesting. I found out that the config module looks for default files:

so technically my “default.json” file should’ve been fine.

turns out that I had .gitignored the file so that my password wasn’t kept in plain sight!
