[Business Story] Apple developing TV series
Apple is developing its first series as a way to promote its music service Apple Music. It will be called “Vital Signs” and be partly based on the life story of Dr. Dre, which took him from the streets of L.A. to the upper reaches of the global business community. The rap producer joined the Apple team when he sold Beats Electronics and Beats Music for $3 billion to the IT giant.
Apple is the last technology company to use original video content as a way to recruit new consumers. Netflix and Amazon have already found success with exclusive series. Microsoft and Yahoo! are struggling to have good results in this domain. Video production has become the new battleground for music services. Spotify offers clips from outlets like ESPN, Comedy Central, BBC, Vice Media and Maker Studio.
