“Terminator always comes up” says Toby Walsh, a professor of artificial intelligence, but does the UN worry? Last Tuesday a pool of experts, lawyers and activists gathered at the UN in order to warn against the effects of the increasing reliance on low-quality drones and “stupid AI”.
They emphasized the lack of reliability of those robots, which make devastating mistakes, and the urgent need for a regulation. But, there is no evidence their gathering would have any impact on robots policy. Some voices have pointed up the role of drones in recent wars, some countries have on the opposite highlighted the importance of human control over robots.
But nothing clear has come up yet. The US recently declared they wanted “appropriate” human control. Can you tell me what is appropriate?
