[Social] “Yellow”, it’s me, I was wondering if after all these years…

What happens when you mix two of the favorite youngster’s social media “Tinder” and “Snapchat”? Well, it gives you “Yellow”, an app allowing Snapchat’s users to grow their audience meeting new people the same way people use Tinder to meet dates or their significant one(s).
This new app was the idea of the two platforms and you can easily understand the reasons which motivated that novelty: for Tinder it allows it to stay relevant outside of its dating app joining forces with the biggest platform amongst millennials (73% of Snapchat’s users are millennials). Finally, for the users, it’s going to allow them to meet new people quickly without having to search for their username on social media or without having to actually know them, and this is where it’s really interesting for Snapchat.
Indeed, allowing people to increase their audience on the platform is allowing them to have more connections, and in the same time more reasons to spend time on the app. Therefore, doing this Snapchat wants people to build by themselves a real audience in the same way people do this on “Twitter” or “Instagram” and meeting new people. However, this new direction is definitely at the opposite of the very first reason people went on the app: having a closer audience and being free without having the impression of being spied by people they didn’t know.
Is Snapchat losing its should to keep increasing its audience and its relevance in the brand’s eyes?
