Any big-picture structure can get created with broad strokes and should therefore not be all that complicated to discuss. Simple questions can get asked about the whole. One such question is whether the whole is somehow a unified whole, or whether the parts are to some extent always independent — with as conclusion that an ultimately unified result cannot exist.
