Unfinished Business

By MARISA MATA, Student Writer

Doctor Juan Bautista (2003) recently held a fundraiser to support student scholarships at Fresno State. The Bautista Foundation has awarded over $40,000 in scholarships over the past four years to students interested in medicine, law and visual and performing arts. Last year, Bautista, who played football at Fresno State, established the Unfinished Business Scholarship to support former NFL players returning to finish their degree.

“They were once stars, ranked eighth in the nation,” Bautista said. “But once it’s over, it’s almost like they’re forgotten.”

“The longer you’ve been out of school, the harder it is to go back. I wanted to give the tools I could to help them finish their degree. It’s important not just for them, but for their children. They can see their parent graduate and see they can also do it.”
