Thanks for sharing this honest story, Jeff. I was recently laid off from a job that I really liked, but I think part of my problem was that I tried too hard to please others instead of focusing on what I thought would be best.

When I recently went to my first writing conference (PennWriters — it was great!), I decided to wear what I like, be my self even if I feel awkward, and keep my expectations low. Just like you, I had an amazing time. I got to know my writing group better and I made a handful of new friends that I think will last a lifetime.

There’s no way to tell who will have a financial impact on your career, but I know my new friends have already encouraged me to keep writing and get published. I hope I had the same effect on them. :)
