Between Faith And Logic

Logic says that 2+2 equals 4.

Let’s talk about Faith, and I’d take it from my perception, Islam.

Lets put ourselves in the shoes of the People of Makkah. A lot of what the Prophet Muhammad (s) was saying really didn’t make any sense. It was complete madness to come and say we would be raised from the dead.
It defies logic.

“Energy is neither created nor destroyed, but it is transformed from one form to another”.

That’s the Law Of Conservation of Energy.

When we die, we become manure. The ground absorbs our nutrients, we become plants, or trees, or give or a few million years, fossil fuel.
How then would you say a person would die and be raised? It doesn’t make any sense.
Muhammad’s arch-rival, Abu Jahl (Father Of Ignorance) used to be called Abu Hakam, meaning Father of Sound Judgement. Muhammad didn’t call him Father of Foolishness. He called him Father of Ignorance. The problem with Abu Jahl was that he couldn’t see beyond 2+2.
That’s why he didn’t believe.
In the Qur’an, as far as I know, God uses ‘o ye people of understanding,’ regarding human affairs like justice, human relations etc.
But when he refers to the Unseen, he says “o ye who believe”.

When someone says something and we say we believe them, there’s no evidence that what they are saying is true, but we believe anyway. That’s the thing again. Faith is founded on belief. Logic is founded on reason/evidence/common sense.
Then again, Faith today could be logic tomorrow. It was just Faith 1400 years ago that made people believe that Allah would perfect us to the tips of our fingers (75:4). Today it is logic. DNA fingerprinting.
1400 years ago, no living thing was travelling faster than 80km/hr. It was illogical to think anything could travel faster.
Just like it was illogical to think Muhammad went to Heaven in one night. It still is. But in Faith, we believe he did.
Different holy books talk about how a day with God is much more than the normal earthly days.

It took Einstein’s theory of relativity for us to even consider the possibility of it. It is slowly becoming logical.

This might be bants. This could also mean that maybe, just maybe, Faith is Logic that needs time.
