Pop rocks candy in sushi is yummy / rare. But…
Toxic plastic microbeads in fish we eat are icky / everywhere. If you try solutions below to reduce this pollution, I’ll sweeten the deal and throw in this sushi with pop rocks recipe, and “healthier” popping candy without unhealthy corn syrup.
- See if a product has microbeads: Get the Beat the Microbead App.
- Avoid skincare that has “microbeads,” “polyethelene” or “polypropylene” in face and body wash, shampoo, eyeliner, lip gloss, deodorant, and toothpaste. (Manufacturers using the microbeads in toothpaste admit the plastic serves no real purpose).
- Get free skincare by Acure Organics if you trade in products with microbeads at SF Outside Lands. Just look for the 5 Gyres booth!
- Make your microbead products famous in Chris Jordan’s viral art. Send them to 5 Gyres / Chris Jordan Art Piece: 3131 Olympic Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90404.
- Make your own exfoliator with leftover coffee grounds and olive oil. It’s easy and wastes less food (unlike salt or sugar scrubs).
- Join these organizations to support laws that ban toxic plastic microbeads that end up in food. Sign this petition and share it on Facebook and Twitter.
