With this post we begin a series of talking about Funexpected Math games and what they teach. I’ll start with our very first game: counting with a Japanese monkey.

Here kids should feed the monkey a given number of berries. Each new task becomes more complex as your child’s skills grow. They will start the game by choosing the right twig with berries. They complete the game by adding up several numbers to solve the puzzle at the end of the activity. We are also planning a more complex version with two variables for older kids.

Why is it educational?

  • It helps to visualise numbers and connect these number symbols with physical representation.
  • Kids are welcome to make mistakes in a friendly atmosphere where they can visually see why they are wrong.
  • Addition has a visual representation where kids learn to operate with numbers freely.

In our app we always write the corresponding points of official US curriculum that the task covers. Other international curriculums will be added later.

We build math games for kids. Our apps motivate kids to analyse, experiment, play, wonder, and set their own questions. This is true education as we know it.
