8 SEO Terms You Should Already Know
Just like any other field, search engine optimization, or SEO has its own language. There is a lot of jargon that gets thrown around in marketing meetings, and it can be a little intimidating. Luckily the terminology is not too complex, especially once you get the basics down. Whether you are in Utah or Japan, here are some SEO terms that you need to know.
Backlink
A backlink links another website to your own. This helps SEO because the search engine perceives links to your page as votes.
Black Hat SEO
This term is used to identify unethical techniques that are very costly for a company. While the results may come fast, the price for getting caught is your site being removed from all search results.
Adwords
Google Adwords is a service that allows a user to purchase pay-per-click ads for certain terms.
Cloaking
Another Black Hat SEO tactic that presents different content to the search engine than what the user sees.
Analytics
Google analytics is a free tool that allows marketers to see the traffic behavior and user patterns for their site. With this tool, you can see how long people view your site and where they are looking at your site from. This feature is growing in popularity with companies in Utah and across the nation.
Gray Hat
Gray Hat SEO is somewhere in between ethical and unethical practices. These strategies are still extremely questionable, although some are not punished by Google. Some examples of this include duplicating content and Grey Hat SEO cloaking.
Keywords
Keywords are words or phrases that are entered into a search engine by a user. Sometimes referred to as search terms, they are the lifeblood of any company’s SEO strategy. How often a keyword shows up on a page or analyzing long-tail search terms also factor into keyword relevancy.
Spider
A spider or a crawler is a computer program that scans and collects website information.
