Advertisers Prep to Wow Audiences at the Super Bowl
As people at home prep for their Super Bowl parties, people working at an advertising agency are furiously preparing their big ads that will be viewed by millions. The Super Bowl ads have become to be just as important as the game for many viewers. There is such a huge budget put into these commercials, and everyone gets excited to see what funny or exciting ads companies will unveil.
CBS reported that companies pay about $4.8 million on average for a thirty second ad spot. That is a lot of pressure for each advertising agency to really bring a powerful performance with each advertisement. People from Utah to the East Coast will view and judge these ads, and from that, they will gain a new experience with each brand. The pressure to create a great viewing experience is very high.
This is the fiftieth Super Bowl, which has further added to the stakes for every advertising agency. Also new this year, Super Bowl television ads will be featured the same way on all viewing devices, including the CBS Sports app, Roku, Apple TV, Android and Xbox One. For advertisers in Utah and other states, this change allows their ads to reach a very large audience.
As advertisers prep for the Super Bowl, the real question is how will audiences respond. An advertising agency or two have decided to utilize social media, specifically Twitter, to gauge audience reactions. Pepsi will be utilizing Twitter to promote hashtags during the game and bring audiences behind the scenes coverage of the halftime show. Using Twitter to increase viewer engagement will help advertisers understand how their commercials are being received in real time.
Esurance is taking its advertisement and Twitter capabilities one step further by creating a $1 million sweepstakes for those who participate during the game. Adweek reported that Esurance’s commercial will encourage viewers to retweet to “emulate the way Esurance passes on insurance savings to its customers”. People in Utah and across the country can participate in the sweepstakes.
This Super Bowl is certainly going to be exciting because of the game and the advertisements. It has now become a Utah and American tradition to watch the commercials as much as the sporting event because of the exciting things that ad agencies release every year. With the new capabilities of reaching wider audiences through social media, brands can now increase their participation throughout the game.
