How to Keep Content Relevant

Advertising agencies and marketing departments in Utah and across the nation know how important content marketing is to a company’s success in 2015. Every company should be looking to produce some sort of content to provide to their audience, but not every company will be able to do this right. There are a lot of components that go into creating a quality content marketing strategy. One of the key components, which is also the most challenging for some companies is keeping their content relevant. The biggest problem is that a lot of companies over complicate the situation, but here are two steps that can help any company stay relevant.

Feedback

The first key to remaining relevant is knowing who determines relevancy. Once a company knows who creates relevancy then they can create a strategy around them. Relevancy is created by the people, by the audience, so it is extremely important that every company in Utah and across the nation listens to their audience. Sometimes companies try and put their heads together in order to figure out what the people want to see, when they could just ask. All of the market research can’t compete with direct audience feedback, and with the growth of social media it is becoming easier and easier for companies to get in contact with their viewers in order to see what they consider relevant. While it is important to focus on the keywords and traffic numbers, the people are more important.

Copy Cats

One of the biggest content marketing sins which many companies in Utah and elsewhere commit is having a second hand approach to their content marketing strategy. Companies will see what is already out there, and if it’s popular they will just mimic the formula. Following the main stream may seem like a good way to stay relevant but it is actually counterproductive. In the online world topics can change all of the time, and if your company is following what other sources create that automatically puts you behind. Instead of focusing on what other companies are posting, try looking for new and unique topics to turn into content.
