Robotics and Web Development For Kids
The three R’s, reading writing and arithmetic, may need to add robotics to the mix. High schools across the country are teaching classes in robotics, as well as web development, to better prepare children for the digital future.
Why Robotics?
It’s true that the age promised by the Jetson’s isn’t here yet. A world where everything humans don’t want to do are done by robots, but robotics is a fast growing industry. Currently robots are being developed to take care of those who can’t take care of themselves, and search and rescue bots in hundreds of shapes and sizes are being developed for both military and commercial use. Lego has developed several robotic programs and competitions for kids who want to build their own futuristic innovations.
Developing For Young Minds
Nearly every business beyond flipping burgers requires some form of web development understanding. Most major online mistakes companies have to recover from are because someone didn’t understand how the internet worked. Classes in web development not only teach how to create and maintain the perfect website, but how to manage social media and internet trolls, skills that will become extremely valuable throughout the children’s lives.
Web Safety and Savvy
With kids using computers from the first time they can get a hold of daddy’s tablet, classes on how to properly use the computers are now provided as early as kindergarten, with some preschools even doing rudimentary computer lessons. Robotics and web development classes help children understand web safety, such as why you never want to talk to strangers, give out personal information, or put something online you know you’ll regret later. This is a lesson a lot of millennials wish they had learned in school. The ability to program their own websites and robots is also a handy skill for any kid to have, both in their school career and life afterwards.
