Also on Saturday night, during the Myers Park 31–0 rout of Charlotte Country Day, I got the opportunity to scout 2018 Myers Park QB Brayden Hawkins. He is not a Carolina offer, but a great young man who is playing football despite many different challenges he’s gone through recently.

In Hawkins debut as a Myers Park Mustang, he led them to the shutout win over the rival Country Day Buccaneers by going 12–22 for 151 yards with two touchdowns and most importantly zero interceptions.

The game didn’t start off great, as Hawkins started the game 5–14, including a couple of overthrown balls. However, Hawkins finished the game 7–8 for 51 yards and a touchdown. Hawkins made some college level throws. His first was the 42 yard completion in the first quarter. Hawkins threw a beauty in between the zones of the Country Day defenders. The second throw that stuck out was the touchdown throw to Moose Muhammad in the first quarter. The pass was beautiful lob throw that dropped perfectly into Muhammad hands while staying inbounds. A couple of his incompletions were even beautifully placed to where only his receiver could make the catch. The second half involved a lot of quick, short throws to keep him from taking hits after he was a bit roughed up on an incompletion in the first half.

Hawkins is definitely a pro-style passer. He did carry the ball seven times, but only totaled 23 yards on the ground. With that being said, he has many upsides in the pocket. Hawkins is extremely accurate with the football and possesses good arm strength for a high school quarterback. His footwork is still a work in progress and his pocket awareness will need to improve, but he has a ton of upside. Hawkins should only improve as the season goes along and he becomes more comfortable with his offensive weapons.
