Dreams

Thoughts of you upon your pillow
your lovely head filled with wonder
Your soulful eyes are sleeping now
I’m awake yet still I wander

Memories of hours spent with you
forsaking sleep, I delve right in
Swim a lake of your tears I long to dry
regret each one I made begin

I’ve collected your smiles and I know each one
Saved in me, like portraits in a gallery
I am surrounded by you, yet yearn for more
Your touch is my food, your laughter my salary

Each and every second that I have held you
Is time dipped in gold, that precious metal
Sculpting our embrace in a statuesque gleaming
Yet warm to the touch and soft as a petal

I’ll take you dancing on a lake of silver
beneath the stars, like diamonds in our eyes
Your smile transforms as a kiss upon my lips
for in dreams we are not caterpillars,
we are butterflies
