Since emigrating from Cuba to the United States as a young teenager, Lakeland sales supervisor Edier Luque Lopez has embraced his family’s value of working hard to build a better life. After graduating from high school in the States, Luque Lopez needed to figure out his next move.
Barely 19 years old at the time but with what he calls “an old soul,” Luque Lopez didn’t just want a job; he wanted a career. He realized that GEICO could offer him endless opportunities to grow, and he applied to and accepted a position as a service representative. Not long afterwards, he was promoted to a coaching position.
“I didn’t want to be average,” Luque Lopez said. “I wanted to move up and take full advantage of all that GEICO offers.”
To that end, he joined the Supervisor Development Program and, after spending some time as a supervisor, transitioned over to sales to learn the other side of the business.
Not only has Luque Lopez enjoyed professional success at GEICO, he also has found personal happiness. During training, he met his future wife, Yadelin Luque, who is a service supervisor, and the couple proudly welcomed daughter Sofia into their growing GEICO family. Part of Luque Lopez’s future-focused mindset stems from wanting to ensure his daughter doesn’t have to go through the same challenges that he did.
Luz Rivera, a sales representative, had this to say of her supervisor: “Mr. Luque Lopez is a young leader who has truly been an inspiration and life changer for many associates. He motivates his team to grow within GEICO and encourages each associate to achieve his or her potential. Sometimes I can say he believes more in you than you do yourself.”
