Last month, I, along with many DTLPs from all businesses, had the pleasure of competing in the Minds and Machines Hackathon in San Francisco! We worked in teams of DTLPs and CAS members to develop a Predix app from scratch in just over 24 hours. It was a fast-paced outdoor event — the time flew by!
We were tasked with creating an application that focuses on one of the following categories:
• Digital Twin
• Workforce of the future
• Intelligent Environment

My team developed an app to create a digital twin of a power plant. With our app, GE sales teams, as well as power plant managers can configure their plants with different combinations of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, boilers, etc. Using live data from our other install bases, we can predict what the augmented plant’s operating cost and power consumption would be, and display the deltas compared to their current configuration.

This tool will empower data driven decisions by our customers and gives GE a competitive advantage in the market place by leveraging the size of our install base and the data we collect from our machines. We were honored to receive the 1st place reward, but the learnings and experiences that Minds and Machines provided greatly surpassed the scope of just the hackathon. If anybody would like to learn more, feel free to reach out to me!
