Role Change at GFE!

Today I am very excited to announce that I have accepted the position as Project Manager with Gale Force Esports. I will continue as Communications and Content Manager for the foreseeable future in addition to my new role. I love this organization and I love our players. I am extremely proud to be given this opportunity to contribute more to GFE and help our brand thrive and grow.

Since I joined GFE almost a year ago, the question I am asked most often is, “What exactly is it that you do?”. I thought this would be a good chance for me to briefly explain what each of my roles entails as most of what I work on is behind the scenes.

As Communications Manager, it is my responsibility to write and publish all of our press releases to our website. Any time we have a change in personnel — we pick up a new team, we release a player, etc. — I reach out to key individuals for statements and draft an article. After it has been approved for release I then coordinate with our Social Media Lead to have it published on Twitter and Facebook. I also maintain the GFE public Discord channel, allowing our fans an opportunity to connect with our players and staff and keep up-to-date on what’s going on in the org.

My role as Content Manager will be changing somewhat going forward as I will only be overseeing content for Heroes of the Storm and handling a larger spotlight project that highlights who we are “off screen”. As our organization grows, I felt more comfortable handing over our other games to people more familiar with what their fan bases want out of their content. I will continue to assist DBSmiley and CavalierGuest as they bring our HotS fans the top tier content they are both known for. Additionally, our first spotlight project will be going live in the next few weeks so I will be working with individuals in the org and creating content with them to share across our social media platforms.

The role of a Project Manager is a difficult one to describe because it spans across all facets of our organization. The best explanation I have heard about what PMs do is, “We make sure everyone has what they need to do their jobs and then we make sure they do them.” From keeping track of projects in Asana, maintaining staff and event calendars, connecting with team managers to discuss tournament promotions, and making sure artwork gets into the right hands for publish, my job as PM is basically to keep everyone on task. Many hours are spent by the staff behind the scenes every week working to make GFE the best esports organization it can be. It is my goal to help each member of our staff use their time effectively and efficiently.

Now comes the sappy part. I want to thank every single person involved in GFE for giving me the opportunity to share my passion for esports and dedication to the organization. If you know me you know how much I care about what we do. From the time I stood in line for lunch with Mel at the ESL Studios in Burbank last summer, to my first meeting with Freddie about joining the org, to my hours-long brainstorming sessions with Kayla and Yuri, to messaging Courtney at all hours of the day and night to talk about HotS, life, the universe, and everything, to our insane staff meetings with Curtis, Roger, Matt, Jayce, Ryan, and Jeff, to our creative team who works their artist fingers to the bone creating incredible images for us to use, and to each of our players and streamers past and present — thank you for bringing me into the GFE family and allowing me to do my best to help us all succeed. There have been many bumps in the road along the way — many things I wish I could go back and do over again — but you all have supported me and helped me grow as a person and as a professional. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to each and every one of you. This is the longest I have ever gone in my life without memeing so in conclusion, you’re all fired. Love you all! xoxo
