Those who establish such tags essentially establish the ontology (the reality) of the resources presented to laymen in the first place — let’s imagine if one of the library’s paintings had an undefined date of creation. Whatever year or era is deemed best for it to be tagged with, that will essentially re-arrange how people perceive that artwork’s existence in human history.
Tagging is certainly necessary given the world of data we live in today, but we have to remain critical of the presence of human hands that ultimately defines such perimeters. In some sense, it might be helpful for laymen to be made aware of the tagging process as well — at least then they can recognize that such systems are not a flawless perspective of history or academic pursuits.
