GGV Capital Adds New Managing Partner Eric Xu

Eric Xu, Managing Partner, GGV Capital

We are thrilled to announce Eric Xu as a new managing partner for GGV Capital. Eric is a long-time friend and early-stage co-investor who is passionate about innovative ideas championed by promising entrepreneurs.

“Early stage companies in China move extremely fast with very few resources so it takes a unique investor to recognize potential of both founders and ideas, and be able to cultivate those into vibrant, meaningful global companies. Eric is a tremendous asset for any founder and we are thrilled to be working with him,” said Jixun Foo, Managing Partner.

We first met Eric more than 11 years ago when our offices shared the same 25th floor of the K. Wah Centre in the Xuhui District in Shanghai. We often met with the same entrepreneurs and shared noodle lunches talking about our shared passion for working with first time founders. During that time, we witnessed the success of Eric’s philosophy that entrepreneurship goes hand-in-hand with innovation — the ability to produce new ideas; provide better solutions; and pioneer new products. His idea that the most successful entrepreneurs are not simply the hardest working, they are the most innovative is evident investments such as ChineseAll (300364.SZ) and VisualChina (000681.SZ).

We have also had the opportunity to work alongside Eric as a co-investor with companies such as where he was an amazing partner in exploring new technologies and business models. Eric will be an excellent resource to our companies in China, in particular advising founders on growth and product market fit.

Eric has significant experience in working with early stage Chinese companies, having been a board member at companies that are creating new opportunities to reach the mass-market consumer, including Babytree, the largest and most popular parenting website in China, Fruitday, online delivery of fresh fruits and vegetables, and XimalayaFM.

Eric was most recently managing director with SIG Investment Asia where he led investments in the consumer Internet and frontiertech sectors. Before that, he was an investment professional at CITIC Capital and TDF Capital (TDF formed an alliance with KPCB in China in 2007). He is a graduate of Shanghai University and holds a Master of Finance from the University of Manchester (UK) School of Business.

We are excited to have Eric working alongside us now as a partner in Shanghai. He is a true asset for GGV and for our portfolio companies as well. Please join us in welcoming Eric to the team.
