Layoff + 1 month
Tomorrow will mark a month since I was laid off from my game industry job.
I have theories about why I was picked, but they aren’t important. Many good employees lost their jobs that day. Many more will lose their game industry jobs in the future.
What is important to me, right now, is how I am handling it.
By rational analysis I am very fortunate. I had more than a few years with my former employer and my severance was quite respectable. That severance will cover me for several months, during which I will continue to have all of my medical benefits. This leaves me so much better off than many in the game industry who are laid off with little to no severance.
So why does it still feel so awful?
