Ted makes an excellent point here. While I can’t speak for the author, I can clarify my response by adding ‘with the replacement of all current incumbents where feasible to maintain a conservative majority.’ Too often I believe Congress has not pushed an issue because of a threat of a Presidential veto citing an inadequate majority to override. The obstructive perspective might change if Congress moved from no action to taking action that forces the President to take a stand and then explaining that action to the American people. Instead, we appear to be content to maintain the ‘status quo’ while waiting for the planets to align. I’m confident we could take 535 hard-working citizens of this country, put them in office, and be more effective than what we have today.
