Remember when the Moon Stole the Sun??!!
And brought some much needed humanity.
Yesterday was historic! Maybe you cared “Too much” or didn’t care at all but if you are living and breathing you were a part of it!
It was a normal day in the neighborhood yesterday morning. Everybody had been ranting and raving for WEEKS about the Eclipse. I enjoy astronomy but I was indifferent. I can dig the excitement but I felt if I missed it, no biggie! Boy was I wrong. I get to work and we have a company email that said they were ordering pizza for all employees in honor of this day. I thought, pizza and special glasses?? I gotta see what all the hype is about!
It gets closer and closer to lunch time and Its buzzing all over the gig.
“What kind of glasses do you have??”
“What time is it going to be totality??”
I’m getting hype for them. It’s not like this happens every other year. This is a moment you can talk about to kids that are born today. You can show them pictures, keep the glasses and share a crazy story or 12. Thinking about that, i started getting excited for me. Around lunchtime I head out to get my super green smoothie, (tried to make that sound cool LOL), and it was only a corner covered. My HR manager happened to be on her way up the stairs and asked if I wanted to use her glasses. OF COURSE I DO! I put them on and look up, and voila, there it is in all of Its glory. Space at Its finest.
All types of different people are gathered in the breakroom. Conversing, eating pizza and watching the news that is showing the Eclipse in totality from different parts of the Midwest. People I don’t normally hear utter a word were asking questions and expressing their excitement. It was a beautiful scene. Fast forward to about 1pm Central time. The back of our building has a a parking lot. Not alot of trees so a clear view of the sun. Every kind of person you can think of is standing outside to try to catch a glimpse of this rarity.
In that moment in time, It felt like hope if hope was a setting or a scene. Pictures being taken. People ripping Eclipse glasses in half and sharing while squinting the eye and watching thru the other. I even seen a few welders lenses and masks. A couple folks came out in groups but for the most part, you were standing next to someone you might not normally stand next to. Not out of hate but just different departments or different shifts.
Humanity showed It’s face in the midst of such an iffy time in the world.
Such an ugly and uneasy time.
Such a frustrating and confusing time.
The beauty of people just being amazed me. In awe of mother nature and what she presented for the world to see. Back to work I went. The chatter still buzzing a bit but all the hoopla died down. The experience definitely gives you another reason to keep the faith that eventually, at the very least, people will be able to coexist.
I hope almost every person that came together today and looked up in the sky at the Moon and the Sun, took the time to look around and see what was around them at that very moment. I’ll carry that feeling with me forever!
