The Gibraltar Blockchain Exchange team headed to London in numbers this week for London Fintech Week, a 4-day event filled with fascinating speakers at the forefront of innovation in both the UK and abroad.
On a daily basis, the event opened its doors to more than 500 attendees and thankfully, the GBX stand was more than equipped to deal with the interest we received. Our newest team members joined us at the event — we would like to take this chance to welcome Kurt Looyens, Head of Business Development in Gibraltar, Marta Stejter, Marketing and Events Executive, and Dionissis Daoussis, Head of Client Relations.
On Wednesday, the whole event focused on blockchain technology. Philip Young, Marketing & Business Development Director at the GBX, was invited to address a packed room delivering a keynote titled “The Evolution Of Token Sales.”
The interest in both Gibraltar as a jurisdiction and the Gibraltar Blockchain Exchange continues to overwhelm us. It’s clear to see that the Crypto Harbour continues to be at the forefront of this industry.
With the focus very much on fintech, it was interesting to hear from speakers representing innovation, from the UK Regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority, explaining their plans to support innovation within the space, to the Bank of England.
Another great panel during the week was the ‘Women in Blockchain’ panel, chaired by Dr Jane Thomason, CEO of Blockchain Quantum Impact. The panellists included Helen Disney, CEO of Unblocked, Michelle Chivunga N, Regional Advisor to the British Blockchain Association, AMBER Nystrom, Co-Founder and CEO at Fifth Element Fund and Darshita Gillies, CEO of Blu Dot Advisory.
During the panel, one particular quote stood out from Helen Disney, CEO of Unblocked:
“Blockchain is rising up the policy agenda.”
We couldn’t agree more and it’s clear to see how the UK and the rest of the world are looking more and more at how blockchain is influencing so many industries.
Overall, the team had an incredible experience at the event, meeting startups working hard to change the way industries as a whole do business. The event set the standard for both sponsors and speakers.
