Why do the vintage race cars have taped headlights?

I’ve been wondering for a while…

Although, I’m kind of a car nerd I had to google to find the anwser.

Some say, if you have a TVR, Alfa Romeo, Lotus or whatever, it is the tape that holds it together.

In fact, the tape helps to keep the glass off the track in case of an accident. Perhaps, it looks more cool than it is useful. Whatever happens, this little and practical detail always reminds me of the smell of gasoline and burnt tyres.
