Why do you call the Atlantic article “chilling”?

He probably views it as chilling because as fun as it is to toy with the idea of aliens, to actually see them in person and to understand the implications of the massive changes to human life that would occur upon first interaction is frightening to most. Life as we know it is completely over at that point, because we would be trying our best to adapt to their wisdom and technology once we see how far behind we are.

Also I imagine an uncanny valley situation would be occurring as well.
