Data Analysis

As I analyzed several of my data sources, I began to notice some trends…

PARTICIPATION

This is a sample of the quantitative participation data that I took over a two week period. This is directly related to my first finding as it shows that participation levels remained the same throughout the observation period. The students who tended to participate, continued doing so. The students who tended not to participate also continued doing so.

GRADES

This is a sample of the report card grades over one cycle. Most of them are higher grades but some are lower. I noticed that students like H or K, who got lower grades on different content areas, also had lower levels of participation. This supports my second finding that states that students’ participation can be affected by their knowledge and confidence within a content area.

NOTES

This is a sample of my field notes that I took throughout the day. This one was a quick note that I wrote while assisting my mentor teacher throughout a writing lesson. I noticed that more students contribute when they are given longer wait times during an OTR. Reflecting on this specific note caused me to begin observing OTRs for their response time.
