Profanity as clickbait

At the French school I attended, a few of us who came from English-speaking families mischievously asked the teacher (a nun) to read a particular story out loud (I think I may have been the instigator!). It was about a lumberjack, and each time he swung his axe, the sound was written as “Phoque….Phoque”. And we’d laugh and laugh, then ask her to read it again! She was delighted to have such attentive students. Another instance of phonetic amusement was when I learned the French word for seal is “Phoque” . Had fun with that one too! We human take ourselves way too seriously ….imagine letting a sound cause such a stir.
